BB King summed it up quiet nicely at the popular New York City nightclub.
"This Kat Can Rock"
Frankly I couldn’t agree more! Katfish indeed does ROCK!
Born to a working class family in Louisville, Ky. Michael Karr was raised listening to
a diverse selection of music. His father was a guitarist in a local country band so there was always country and gospel music, as well as a large serving of southern R& B coming out the windows of the Karr household. His father realizing his son’s gift of playing guitar and singing had him performing professionally at the age of thirteen. By the time he was sixteen he was one of the most sought after guitar players in the area.
Louisville during the sixties was fertile ground for upcoming musicians such as Tim Krekel, Steve Ferguson and Jerry Hargrove. All of whom reached various heights of national success. Katfish has mentioned many times the fond memories of performing as teenagers with each of the above. Sadly they have all three been taken too soon. Their work and spirit however will live on forever.
Michael was given the name Katfish by his grandfather. Katfish said, "The simple explanation of the name is the fact that every time I went fishing as a child with my grandfather all I caught were catfish. Even if we were fishing for Bass or Crappie, the catfish always found my line". The name stuck and hey what a great stage name. Katfish, ya gotta love it.
Katfish has incredible vocal styling that adds a unique dimension to every song he performs. This singing guitar virtuoso has the ability to take any song from any genre and make it his own. He can be as country as Vince Gill, as soulful as Sam & Dave, as smooth vocally as Brook Benton or Sam Cook and rock the house like Stevie Ray Vaughn. Yes Michael Katfish Karr is the full package..
During our last conversation, Katfish stated he is moving forward with his solo career. He wants to play smaller venues in more intimate surrounding. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing his one man band show and it’s incredible. I would highly recommend if you get the opportunity, do yourself a favor and check Katfish out for yourself. I think you’ll see why his fan base continues to grow. Katfish is not only a very talented individual he’s also one heck of a nice guy.
